How To Experience Travel At Home In The Pandemic

Written by Manvi Sarang

It can be challenging to be stuck as a traveller who loves exploring new places and cultures. The Covid-19 pandemic has surely put a halt to our bucket list of beautiful offbeat destinations for a much-needed break. All we can wish for is to find a way to travel at home.

The longing for this break keeps on increasing as we grow agitated at home. As responsible citizens, most of you have avoided irresponsible travel and locked yourself at home, which is a good decision.

That does not necessarily mean you won’t get to enjoy the joys of travel at home.  Luckily, the digital age has made it perfectly possible to explore the world from the comfort of your bedroom.

To make this easier for you, here are some tips through which you can satisfy your wanderlust at home and be safe at the same time.

1. Learn a new language

The world is full of different languages that are embraced by people. Learning a new language is a good way to indulge in the culture of another country. Sometimes it can even change your perspective.

Make some time this year to learn a new language as it also tells you a lot about the destination and the country. Languages are full of knowledge and knowledge is truly powerful.

There are endless resources on the internet where you can learn a new language for free. For a more refined experience, you can even take up professional classes.

2. Take a Virtual Tour

The power of technology and the internet is incomparable. The tools found on your computers and phones now enable you to see the world through virtual tours. There are even travel shows for you to binge on before you take a trip.

There’s a wide range of virtual museum tours, cultural events, and live nature videos for you to choose from. Many places to visit might be shut for the public but not when it comes to online experiences.

Even zoos from all over the world are offering a similar service with their animal live streams which are fortunately free of charge. You can always hop on social media to take a look at gorgeous pictures of destinations.

3. Indulge in foreign cuisine

It can be boring to eat the same dish you’ve been eating for the past 3 months. The wanderlust inside you desires a change of spices to savour your taste buds. The best way to do that is to try out food from a different country.

Not only will you get to discover a new dish but also learn more about the destination. The way a food item is cooked and tastes tell you a lot about the destination and its people. Don’t miss out on that!

4. Listen to Travel Podcasts

Sometimes, listening to podcasts can boost your travel spirit more than reading a good travel book or watching a travel show. There’s something about a person sharing his experience that is unbeatable.

The best part is that you can listen to podcasts and continue doing several other things in the background. It’s a great way to complete several chores and fulfil the wanderlust inside you.

5. Create a board of your dream destinations

Ever heard of mood boards? This board you create will be a complete collection of all the destinations pinned down on your bucket list. It’s simple. Just cut out pictures from magazines and newspapers and group them together. Voila!

Seeing the lovely pictures of your favourite destinations while you walk around in your house can keep you inspired for your future travels. In this way, you can keep the wanderlust inside you satisfied and inspired always.
